Thanks to all of you who have already entered our duathlon on April 10th. We're expecting to have more than 150 people taking part. Here are some of the questions which we're regularly asked. There is more information on the duathlon page of the website.
WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO BE THERE?
The race (both distances) starts at 9am on the playing fields behind the school. It's a mass start so everybody will go off at the same time. The car park, registration and transition will open at 0730. You'll need your paper race number(s) to get into transition so you need to park up, register and get your number(s) and then grab your stuff and enter transition. The car park and registration will shut promptly at 0830 so don't leave it too late.
WHAT SORT OF BIKE DO I NEED?
Any bike is fine as long as it's safe and roadworthy so you must have brakes on both wheels and tyres with tread on them (not bald) You will also need to have bar end stoppers in, this is to minimise injury in case you fall off and on to your handlebars. We will have officials from British Triathlon and our marshals checking this as you come into transition.
DO I HAVE TO WEAR A BIKE HELMET?
YES. You will not be able to compete without one. You must have your helmet on and done up before you remove your bike from the rack. You must put your bike back on the rack before you remove your helmet to go back out on the second run.
CAN I WEAR HEADPHONES?
NO. Anybody found to be wearing headphones during the race will receive a penalty and may be disqualified. We want you to be able to hear the traffic, the marshals, the officials and the nice people who are cheering you on.
WHAT TRAINERS SHOULD I WEAR?
Road shoes will be fine unless we have lots of rain in the weeks before the race. There is a short cross country section but the earth is compacted so road shoes are suitable.
HOW DO I GET MY RESULT?
Our amazing results team will be beavering away throughout the race so all you need to do is go to the results table and your time will be displayed on the screen. All of the results will be on this website on Sunday night after the race.
WHAT DO I DO IF I GET ALL PANICKY ON RACE DAY?
Just ask any of the marshals or officials. They will be happy to help and answer any of your questions. There will also be a briefing in transition for all competitors at 0830.
I'M SCARED THAT I MAY BE LAST
Please don't worry. Everybody will get help from the marshals whether they're first or last. Somebody will be the final competitor to finish but they will get a massive cheer. If you are finding the last run difficult we can always find a club member to run with you.
ARE THERE TOILETS AND SHOWERS?
Yes. There are portable toilets next to transition and changing rooms and showers which can be used after the race.
WILL THERE BE CAKE?
Oh Yes! There will be a charity stall selling tea, coffee and cake after the race. They can't provide water bottles for the race though so please make sure that you bring your own.
